Smokey Barbeque Sauce
I came up with the recipe many years ago and have not purchase “store-bought” barbeque sauce except for short notice events since. This recipe is really easy to make and tastes better after it has sat for a few days in the frig. In fact, several years ago, my brother was out visiting and I served it to him, he loved it so much it is the only sauce he uses. You can adjust the liquid smoke, garlic, and onion to your own preferences.
Smokey Barbeque Sauce
1 c ketchup
1 c apple cider vinegar
1/3 c brown sugar
1/2 c molasses
2 t liquid smoke
1/4 t fresh cracked black pepper
1/4 t garlic powder
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1/4 t onion powder
1 small shallot, finely minced
1 t cumin
Mix everything together in a non-reactive sauce pan and whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to simmer. Allow the sauce to simmer for at least 1 hour or until it has thickened. Remove from heat, cool and then refrigerate for at least two days for the flavors to meld.
